Upcoming Events At The Arts Centre Melbourne

Melbourne is renowned for it’s cultural and arts scene and there are many places dotted around the historic city that offer top notch exhibitions, performances, products and viewing.

At the centre of all this is the Melbourne Arts Centre or is it was formally known the Victorian Arts Centre. About town it is locally just called The Arts Centre.
It is actually a complex of theatres and concert halls as well as a performing arts centre. It is located in the central Melbourne suburb of Southbank in Victoria Australia.

The following are some of the exciting performances and events coming up;

Romeo and Juliet

April 14th – May 1st

A production by Bell Shakespeare at the Fairfax Studio by artistic director Peter Evans who intends to breathe life into possibly the greatest love story ever.

From the first intimate blush to the tragic finale, Romeo and Juliet is a story for all ages. A tale of a chance meeting, love at first sight, the passion of youth and old family feuds.

The production will feature a talented cast, including Alex Williams
(The Julian Assange Story, Never Tear Us Apart) as Romeo, and Kelly Paterniti (As You Like It) as Juliet.

The Last Night Of The Proms

April 16th

The classic concert of the year at the Hamer Hall with conductor Sir Andrew Davis conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and featuring contralto Liane Keegan.

A chance to dress yourself in red, white and blue and fly your flag high to revel in patriotic glory of the Best of British. British composers are at the heart of the last night of every proms and it is the climax to the inaugural BBC Proms Australia season.

No last night would be complete without singalongs to Land Of Hope And Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

La Boheme

May 3rd – 21st

One of the most popular operas of all time featuring some of the best known arias in the world. La Boheme is a celebration of first loves.

This glittering production comes to the stage courtesy of Gale Edwards, featuring international stars Lianna Haroutounian and
Gianluca Terranova and conducted by Andrea Molino.

Nearly 120 years after Puccini wrote his smash hit La Boheme, the music and themes are still relevant today.

La Boheme is a story about friendship and falling in love. It is also about sacrifice and never giving up, even if it means parting with your lover.
